Who We Are
LNESC Upward Bound (UB) is a FREE college preparatory program that works with 60 low income, first generation high school students in the Evergreen and Vancouver School Districts. LNESC Upward Bound focuses on helping students develop the skills needed for
college success as well as encouraging our students to enroll in and graduate from college.

Six-week summer program: 4 weeks at WSU Vancouver Facilitated by MESA focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), 1 week of Mt. St. Helens outdoors school and ecology camp, 1 week of Asian/Pacific Islander cultural experiences

All Upward Bound programs have an emphasis on helping students attain academic success and meeting their post secondary educational goals. However, the 3 programs we offer are slightly different especially regarding eligibility.

Which Student population do you serve?
Students in Clark County, WA who are interested in going to college, come from families who are either low income and/or first generation (neither parent has a 4-year bachelor's degree). Students must also be:
Enrolled in 9th through 12th grades
14—19 years old
Willing to participate in all aspects of the UB Program.
Legal citizen or permanent resident*.

*We do have separate grants to serve other students who do not meet above criteria. Contact us or fill out Application and we will let you know which program you qualify for.
What program best fits me?
All Upward Bound programs have an emphasis on helping students attain academic success and meeting their post secondary educational goals. However, the 3 programs we offer are slightly different especially regarding to eligibility. Please look through Programs Page for more detailed information.

Do I have to reapply every year?
Once you are accepted into a program, you will not need to reapply. You will automatically continue in that program, until you ask to be removed, or the grant is terminated.

If you wish to change programs, you will need to petition that your application be rolled over to the new program and eligibility will be determined to ensure compliance with our grant requirements.

A student may not be served by multiple Upward Bound programs.
The LNESC Upward Bound and the SW WA Community Foundations Focus Grant Upward Bound programs have a hard copy application available in English or Spanish. It asks for student and parent/guardian demographic and contact information, personal essay, letters of recommendations, and transcripts. It also includes a release form and asks questions to determine program eligibility.
For the Ford Driving Dreams program, you can fill out a digital application. It will ask for basic demographic and contact information. It also includes a release form and asks questions to determine program eligibility.
